Author Profile

The author's relationship with Asia began in 1987 when he worked as an English teacher at the Tainan YMCA in Taiwan. In 1997 he returned to Asia, this time settling in Japan. Since that time he has traveled extensively throughout Southeast Asia giving him the opportunity to research and interview for this book. As a freelance writer, Spiri has over 100 published articles, many about Asian culture. He also as an interest in Buddhism, and enjoys bicycling and the Japanese game “go." Spiri presently is Associate Professor in the Education epartment at Gifu Shotoku Gakuen University.
